lazy labor day

suddenly summer is over in seattle. light rains have returned, burned lawns are again tinted green, and the sun isn’t up until after the kids. there is a cool crispness and the smell of earth in the air as i watch students packing in and out of the college rentals in our neighborhood.

we spent the long weekend checking out parks outside our neighborhood on capital hill and ravenna. we saw cacti and orchids in a quaint botanical garden, hiked to the top of an old brick water tower, and followed a creek through a city ravine too steep for houses.

we are thankful that amelia is doing well, putting on weight and showing us her smile. she’s on a few medications to shed a build up of blood and moisture in her lungs, but they are doing their job and keeping her stable. next week dr lewin is presenting her case to his peers in the pediatric cardiolgy department, and we should have a plan of action soon. for the moment, things look pretty good.
