1 step back

there was one minor set back today. when the team opened her chest
amelia experienced heart block, which occurs when the electrical
current regulating the heart’s beating is disturbed. the surgery
probably didn’t directly cause this. more likely is that her heart’s
wiring was frayed and the last strands just finally gave away today.
while she may recover her rythym, there is a strong possibility that
she will need a pacemaker. this technology is advanced and well
understood, so should be straight forward to handle. we’ll learn more
over the coming days.

so we took care of two problems today (the ventricular inversion and
the vsd hole), stabilized the third (ebstein’s anomaly), but discovered
a new one (heart block). by my count the score is now 3 – 2 + 1 = 2.
still, the overall condition is much improved and the remaining two
conditions are more easily managed. we’re feeling good.
