slow recovery

with 4 comments

in the vernacular of his native new zealand, dr mee judges that
amelia’s recovery is going just "fair to middling." she’s very young to
have undergone such difficult and long surgery, and her body is taking
extra time to recover. she was on bypass for several hours, meaning a
heart/lung machine provided life support while her real heart was
stopped for the surgical repairs. the longer the body is supported by
this machine, the more negatively the kidneys react. she has been on
dialysis for the past few days, but fortunately she has begun to
produce urine again. the doctors and nurses appear confident that her
vitals are trending in the right direction, so we’ll just continue our
watch over her supported by a couple of steady sentries – pinky the dog
and courage lion – sent by friends (thanks farellas and clay/mandy/zoe).
