Comments and web 2.0

with 4 comments

It turns out that there are quite a few friends, family, neighbors and co-workers who are keeping up with Amelia’s story, more than I expected. Many have sent emails; some have left comments on blog entries; all have helped, probably more than you can know. Julia and I have taken much strength and comfort from this outreach. Because email is out of context and thus ephemeral, I am going to transfer some of them to the comment sections of this blog. I know Amelia will appreciate reading them one day.

Please feel free to add comments. I know it may seem a bit weird at first, like spraying graffiti on the neighbor’s wall. But this blog is not truly mine. It’s ours. It’s the conversation between us that creates this space and makes it unique. This is what the techology cognescenti mean when they talk about "web 2.0." In the first version of the web, large media companies adapted their content and made it available through the internet as a new distribution channel. In this latest version, content is also created by us, the audience, and discovered through powerful search technology. I love my job because I get to help create the products, services and business models that are shaping this new web experience. So get involved, or else you may end up having no idea what your kids do all night on the internet :).

  1. Amelia\’s grandparents were there in Cleveland to ride the emotional rollercoaster that the Frieland & Claeys families has been riding since we all heard about Amelia\’s condition. We are now home again and realize that we will never look at a young child at a store or at a park in the same way. We will always be thinking, "Another lucky parent that really has no idea how truely fortunate they are!"Julia and Neal have a Kiwi fruit vine in their back yard–a huge monster of a thing that sometimes looks like it will overtake the patio and sometimes has a pretty rank odor. Dr. Mee\’s success has changed my feeling on that thing. The New Zealand Doctor has made me find a new favorite fruit. I\’ll look at that vine the next time I am in Seattle and just say, Thank you. Love and Kisses, PaPa

  3. Neal & Julia–So great to see Amelia pulling through all of this so well, what a blessing to have two parents that ensured she received the best care in the world, even if it was a continent away (and a few days from retirement!). We all hope the good news continues when you return to your home as a healed family. In the meantime if you are getting stir-crazy in Cleveland, we\’re a quick trip away in Pittsburgh, and you are always welcome! All the best,Jake & Liz
