Discharged

with 9 comments

We are out of the hospital. Amelia’s final echocardiogram showed a well functioning heart, with the technician muttering "nice", "really great," and "wow" each time she took a look from a different angle. This was the same technician who didn’t utter a single comment on the pre-operative echo 13 days ago, and just looked grim as she moved quickly through the process. I imagine her positive post-operative comments were the natural response when looking at the fine craftmanship of a top surgeon. Even though she must have seen this many times before, it still impressed her. Nice.

I convinced the discharge doctor that we didn’t need to come in for a follow up visit here in Cleveland, so we’re boarding a plane tomorrow for the flight home.

  1. CONGRATULATIONS! Oh it just makes me smile as I sit here reading your post and looking at that smiling picture of Amelia. She seems like such a strong, positive, amazing little girl – most clearly a product of you and Julia :). I can\’t wait to meet her in person when you all get home. The McCardles

  2. Today I witnessed a miracle. You can too. Scroll backwards through Neal\’s "My Blog Photos" and see the difference in Amelia from her bright, pink, puggy post operative picture to the one 26 back. That was probably her low point. It is easy to be a believer. If it is God, Fate or Karma doesn\’t matter. Just that one understands that there has been too many serendipitous events in the Amelia story–too many to at least not question if it were not directed. I\’m going out and get the book, "The Three Princes of Serendip", maybe it will help me find the answer. PaPa

Amelia looks so much happier and healthier than she did before her surgery. Enjoy your little princess and her brother. It is amazing the life lessons she has taught so many people in her short life.Donna, Mark, Dominic, Mia and Lukep.s. Hip Hip Hooray for the Cleveland Clinic. They did it again!

  8. Once again I began tearing on sentence two of the daily blog. Thank goodness today they are tears of joy. Julia, Neal… congratulations. She made it through the surgery and things are looking positive. In her picture, she has as much light in her eyes as my little Lucy. I guess I shouldn\’t be surprised given all the love and attention flowing in her direction. Amelia darling, I think you\’re going to be okay.
